Frequently Asked Questions
ARE VINTAGE RUGS DURABLE FOR HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS?
Vintage rugs have already lasted from 30-100 years and are still in great condition, looking better and better with age. Vintage rugs are made with wool which is naturally stain resistant. Vintage rugs look better as they wear so please use and love your rug.
MY RUG IS WORN MORE IN DIFFERENT AREAS AND HAS REPAIR MARKSThese are vintage works of art which have been around for upwards of 30 years. It is very common that a vintage rug may need to be repaired and if so, they are barely noticeable. In our opinion this adds to the history and unique look of each rug.
I SPILT SOMETHING ON MY RUG/ NOTICED IT HAS A STAINVintage rugs feature natural fibres and intricate hand woven designs, adding beautiful tones and artistry to any home. When it comes to cleaning these durable rugs, special care and attention should be taken to preserve the natural fibres and colours.
Lanolin, a natural oil which is found in wool is a natural stain repellent. This is the benefit of a natural fibre vintage rug. As soon as you notice a spill or stain it is best to try and catch it straight away. Blot the area with a wet towel and it should come out with minimal effort. For harder stains I dilute about a tablespoon of vinegar in a cup of water and dab that on the stained area, it might take a few try but this should lift the stain. For anything you can not get out yourself, you can take your rug to a professional cleaner. Do not use any bleaches, chemicals, Napisan etc. as this will affect the colour of your rug.
KEEPING MY VINTAGE RUG CLEANVintage rugs are low maintenance, vacuuming is all you need to do to remove dust particles. When seeing a spill or a stain your first attempt should always be to spot clean with water before moving on to vinegar. Do not put your rug in the washing machine.
